H&M Group has officially appointed former Inditex executive Diego Teijeiro Ruiz as its new Chief Information Officer, marking a significant leadership move as global fashion retailers accelerate investments in data infrastructure, AI, and operational technology.
Ruiz joins the Swedish retail giant after nearly two decades at Inditex, where he most recently served as Global Chief Data and Analytics Officer. During his tenure, he also held senior technology leadership roles overseeing product, supply chain, transportation, store systems, and sustainability operations.
In a LinkedIn post published ahead of his official start date, Ruiz reflected on his 20-year tenure at Inditex while signaling enthusiasm for the transition to H&M Group.
“After 20 years at Inditex, I feel grateful to every person I’ve worked with along the way,” Ruiz wrote. “Tomorrow, I begin a new adventure at H&M Group with excitement and great respect for everything the company represents.”
The appointment comes at a critical moment for global fashion retail, where technology leadership is increasingly becoming central to competitive advantage. Retailers are rapidly rebuilding around real-time inventory visibility, predictive analytics, AI-driven merchandising, and faster omnichannel fulfillment capabilities.
Ruiz brings deep operational experience from Inditex, widely regarded as one of the world’s most technologically integrated fashion retailers. As Global Chief Data and Analytics Officer since 2018, he played a key role in scaling data systems across the company’s global retail operations.
Before that, he served as Deputy CIO overseeing technology infrastructure across product development, supply chain, store operations, and sustainability functions.
The move also highlights the intensifying competition between global fashion groups for senior technology and data leadership talent as retailers increasingly position digital infrastructure as a core operational differentiator rather than a support function.
The leadership transition comes alongside continued expansion activity from Inditex brands across key international markets. In the UK, Inditex-owned Pull&Bear and Stradivarius have recently opened new flagship locations at Meadowhall in Sheffield, marking the brands’ first stores in Yorkshire.
British Land Retail Leasing Director Richard Crowther said the openings reinforce Meadowhall’s position as a major regional retail destination, noting that the shopping center reaches approximately 20% of the UK population.
For H&M, the appointment signals a continued push toward strengthening its technology backbone as the retailer navigates rising pressure around inventory efficiency, digital customer experience, and operational agility in an increasingly volatile retail environment.
